My parents had Kaya put down this morning, Dexter was there too, he wanted to come. I am away at school so I didn't get to say goodbye, but supposedly it went well and she was licking out a jar of peanut butter during the process!
Best dog ever.
Rest in Peace Kaya

Kaya's 14 1/2 blue dog If she was a human she would be in Grade 9, while Dexter would still be in day care!

A bit off topic but this is an interesting page on Lab mismarks:

http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/mismarks.html

The mosaic dogs look so neat!

Kaya actually has a small black spot in one armpit, and the odd random black fur around her back.

Hmm well there's a Portuguese Water Dog that lives on our street, there used to be an Old English Sheepdog near us, two Leonbergers, two Landseer Newfies, a Wheaten, Giant Shnauzer, Irish Wolfhound, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Mini Bull Terrier, Mastiff, Great Pyrenees, English Setter, Puli (in full coat! We were eating lunch in the park and a mop walked by!) Samoyed, Vizsla... I'm sure there's more.

Okay so some of these aren't really "rare" but it was neat to see them. big grin

I have just finished my first week as a co-op student at a vet (so cool! big grin ) so now I know what happens during a neuter surgery pretty up close and personal.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, the vets do so many spay and neuter surgeries and it's quite a simple procedure. Especially for young boys like yours, I'm sure they'll do great. The male neuter surgery is even less invasive than the spay, though both are pretty quick. Good luck!
P.S. Aww your dogs are cute, I love their names!

Dog Health > Your dog ate WHAT?!

Our old dog Nuke ate this thanksgiving craft thing one of us kids must have made: and apple with tons of toothpicks stabbed into it, the toothpicks covered in mini marshmellows to look like a turkey. shock I figure at least the marshmellows would cushion the toothpicks.

Years ago Kaya ate an huge tray full of halloween candy that my brother left on the floor. She gobbled all the chocolate bars, gum, candy and lollipops (including the sticks)and all the associated wrappers. The onlt thing she spared was the chip bags, I guess she couldn't smell them. Other than that she's pretty good, hasn't eaten much else that I can think of anyway... Not that she's the brightest. Even when a visiting dog easily nosed up the light plastic garbage can lid and dug in, while Kaya was watching, she has never gotten into it herself. She just sniffed the edge of the lid afterwards wondering how he did it.

Dexter is such a good boy, supposedly the only thing he even chewed up as a pup was a feather pillow at his old owner's house (that gave us a picture, it must have been a big pillow, the whole living room was covered!)naughty

Puppy Place > Do you keep in touch with

We don't keep up with the family who gave up Kaya, though her old owners actually met her last year by chance when Kaya was staying with a friend for a couple days and her old owners were visiting their parents who lived on the same street! eek It's a small world, I think her old owners sort of feel bad about giving her up, since it was 10 years ago and then they see her, like "oops look how long our responsibility should have lasted..."

With Dexter we keep in touch with both the rescue lady (who keeps calling to check up on him) and his old family, as my mom emails them and they exchange pictures. However that will probably dwindle off since his old family is expecting a baby any day now and the rescue's calls get further apart.

I think if we had dog from a breeder that we knew we would probably keep in touch since I would want to send lots of photos that I was proud of. big grin
