The Havanese is a charming, open-hearted breed. They are soft-natured. Great with kids and other animals are greeted with glee. Easy to train. They learn quickly who is in charge and rarely challenge for dominance. Havanese may be small, but they are sturdy. They are a good choice for someone who wants a small, sweet tempered dog that isn't fragile or yappy.
I've seen several at Agility trials around this region in pet clips....totally adorable!

| Barked: Wed Apr 10, '13 4:46pm PST | | | | | Lenny - Poodle hair tends to scare many people away from them. I keep all of mine in a short utility clip (also known as a lamb clip). They go to the groomers every 8 weeks...with me doing in-between touch up brushing, clipping, etc.
Groomer costs depends on the groomer. The smaller the dog...the lower the cost of grooming them. Cost also depends on location (city vs small town).
I will say I'm a total klutz when it comes to fixing my own hair (not really a girlie girl) but learning to trim poodle hair wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. It does take practice. Face and feet are the hardest part of grooming a poodle. I'm telling you though...the no shedding thing is quite awesome.
My first concern about finding a groomer was if my dogs enjoyed going there. That was more important to me than anything else. Obviously, I wanted them to be thorough...but my dogs didn't need to be in a show clip and perfect.
You are like me....I LOVE a versatile dog! And versatility is one of the Poodle's best traits.
But then again...how can you resist the cute little scruffy face of a Border Terrier...and the fact that they rate pretty high on the versatility scale as well. They are my favorite of the Terriers for that reason and their ability to be social with other dogs. Awesome size too...lot of dog in a small package.
Do you know much about the Havanese? They are another favorite of mine.

| Barked: Tue Apr 9, '13 2:46pm PST | | | | | I love BORDER TERRIERS! They can be a couch potato or a mountain climber, easily fitting into almost any situation. This people-oriented breed happily participates in all family activities but doesn't bounce off the walls in the house.
These compact, whiskery pups have the stamina, intelligence, playfulness, and ratting instinct of the terrier, without the dominance, aggression, barking, coat care, or high energy of many others in their group. Bred to run with foxhounds, they had to be feisty enough to hold their own but social enough to fit in as well. Unlike many terriers, Borders play well with other dogs and often tolerate cats if raised with them.
MINIATURE POODLES are, of course, also awesome! One thing all poodles have in common is a need to be with their people. If ignored, they're miserable (and make everyone else miserable) and not the happy companions they're meant to be.
Extremely adaptable and capable, the poodle tries almost anything that its person wants it to. They're superb obedience dogs, easily trainable, and always watch their handler. Poodles tolerate other dogs and household pets. They are best with intense bonding and are not for ignoring or kennel life.
I too was a large or extra large dogs only kinda gal...until Sumo came into my life. Seriously, I always said I would NEVER have a toy poodle. Well, sometimes the universe has other plans. Never say never.
