If one of my dogs had a history of being abused (have had several), and a history of aggression up to and including biting human beings, I would never and I do mean NEVER have the dog around children.
If they ever did bite anyone with me knowing their history of unstable temperament and aggression that would be on ME.
Wouldn't be the childs fault.
Wouldn't be the dogs fault.
It would be 100% MY fault for not responsibly managing the animal.
I could never justify forcing the dog to pay for my shortcomings with its own life.
Any qualified behaviorist would have expressed the level of responsibility needed to properly manage a dog with these issues. Imho you should be glad it wasn't more serious than it was. Additionally, had it been someone outside your family, they could have easily sued you for substantial damages because you were well aware of the potential for harm here and were negligent in preventing it regardless.
Put him down if you won't take responsibility for what happened and can commit to managing him properly for the rest of his days.

If in pursuit a criminal is believed to have dropped a weapon you can bet that without a warrant law enforcement can go where ever they believed he did to try to find it.
Same goes for if they believe a crime is being committed that very moment. If a man is beating a woman or a woman is hurting a child they don't have to knock and wait for someone to answer, nor would their only alternative be to sit and wait while someone got ahold of a judge to sign off on a search warrant.
There are many MANY circumstances in which it is perfectly lawful for them to step in and do what they need to do, including searching your very own body if they deem it necessary.
Some may disagree about the fairness in that but don't call it against the law because it's not.
If you've got nothing to.hide you've got nothing to worry about.
I too agree with Sabi, interesting just how many times the owners story has changed.......

| Barked: Mon Apr 22, '13 8:10am PST | | | | | Mika - the police do NOT need a warrant to search property while in pursuit....that would make absolutely no sense. Can you just picture it? Criminal runs from sidewalk to someone's lawn and that means they can turn to officers in pursuit and just say neener neener now you can't get me!
What a ridiculously silly notion.........and how incredibly dangerous would that be for the general public. Just yikes.
Not only can they search without a warrant for a suspect but also for any evidence, dropped weapons, drugs, paraphernalia.
If people think that's infringing on their rights somehow instead of seeing it as people risking their lives to keep you and yours safe then by all means, please, put signs in y'alls front yards alerting criminals to the "safety zone" that is your yard and not your neighbors. That way those fleeing can seek refuge in YOUR yard and not anyone else's who happen to believelaw enforcement should be allowed to do their job unhindered by geographics!

Any number of things could have happened to them during that time, and unfortunately with the dogs running at large like that it's going to be a he said she said situation.
Please make sure they NEVER get out like that again, it's so so dangerous for them.

If you want to believe everything you read on the internet that's fine by me, no skin off my teeth. But that is DEFINITELY not how I roll lol.

I know exactly what you mean about wanting to snatch them all up regardless of the ethics involved in doing so. The story of the $10 beagle will stick with me for a long time......that's just so wrong on so many levels........

| Barked: Thu Apr 18, '13 11:00am PST | | | | | I contacted this breeder directly and she seemed genuinely horrified this post was here. She said she knew who the original poster was and hasn't heard from them in years. She also said always makes herself available for any help with training, nutrition and breed specific understanding owners might have. She said she has reached out to this particular family but they have yet to respond.
It was not a stock response, she took the time to write me a pretty lengthy email even though I have zero vested interest in the situation.
They may not meet the standards of some here but they hardly sound like someone who doesn't give a rip about the dogs they produce or the owners they sell to.
