Samoa: Golden/Aussie mix...Extremely biddable and great off leash. (Aussie) As sweet as pie (Golden) I can't think of any negatives from these two probably mixes...his negative comes from possible husky ancestry? He likes to take himself for walks. He always comes back, but if given half a chance he is outside the fence and living the large life.

In one way it can work. When I adopted Samoa, I got pre-approved. It was right before Christmas so I didn't really plan on adopting until the next year. I had been in contact with the shelter and when I saw a picture of a likely pup, I decided to go up and visit. I did not think they would release him until after the holidays, but there were a large number of potential adopters there on that very day. We took him out and played with him and decided we wanted him, so since I was already approved, I didn't have to go to the end of the line...

We got him and in fact took him home on Christmas Eve. A very nice holiday gift for myself!

Well, our boy had been tagged as a Berner or Newfie...thank goodness he is not that large, or I'd have him and Savannah both taking up all the floor space. And others have thought BC or Flat Coated or some other such mix.

What a cute pup. He looks a LOT like Samoa when I got him at 4 months. And about the weight as well. Samoa is probably an Aussie/Golden mix and now weighs about 80 lbs. He is pretty lean. I have managed not to let him get chubby!

I recommend a herding mix. I have two. One is a Corgi something and one is an Aussie/Lab or Aussie/Golden or possibly BC.

They are both peaches. The Corgi mix is a little on the velcro side and has some temper issues, but is a wonderful off leash natural heeler. And Samoa is just the best overall dog I have even known.

Topic: I am so glad that Trooper has fallen into loving hands.

OT: Twister, here is Samoa who is supposed to be Lab/Aussie. His tail is also carried that way...pretty strong resemblance, except for the longer fur.

Brilliant! I also suggest crossing the obedient golden with the headstrong Aussie and you end up with a Samoa. Very gentle and sweet, but mind your own business and I'll mind mine.

I am not sure why they only gave me two weeks worth. I think they believed that would knock it out. And then the continued shampooing would take care of the rest of it.

And it did pretty much knock it out, but the small remainder seems to be continuing to be a nuisance and shampooing him twice a week is not so easy...He does not cooperate and it is getting cold and getting an 80 lb. dog into my small bathtub is more than a notion. I do manage to get him a really thorough bath at least once a week and do some spot cleaning otherwise. I started with the Lotrimin two days ago and it seems to be relieving the itch. I had thrown out all the old bedding which was getting ratty anyway...and bought new. I put it out in the sun three or four times a week. Will get some Lysol too...

The other dogs have been exposed to it, since they often sleep in a heap, but I am watching them for any signs.

I'd get it checked. Samoa would fall a lot as a puppy, and he has a bad hip joint - probably an inheritance from the part of him that is golden retriever.

He gets along okay, but moves stiffly. I am sure it will cause us future issues...
