Dogs are angels- with fur!

My dog Murphy also has diabetes, you do not have to feed them a special diet if the dog food you are feeding them is high grade, which ours is. Get a glucose meter if you can, the best one is AlphaTrak 2. Check out the k9diabetes.com site lots of info on there for you. Good Luck!

Dogs are angels- with fur!

Murphy 10 years old, 60 lbs was diagnosed May 2013 and it has been and uphill battle since. He is still not regulated, started at 15 units twice a day and now up to 23 units, his numbers are as high as 450 and the lowest they go are 150. He is going blind with cataracts which is very common with diabetes and not much you can do about them, he has neuropathy in back legs which is also common with diabetes, the high sugar attacks nerves in back legs, same thing happens in people. He is on dry kibble, Blue Buffalo and the Vet said keep him on that since it's a good food. I do a curve at home every month with the AlphaTrak 2 which is the best glucose meter to use for dogs, need only a tiny pin size drop of blood to test and he doesn't even feel the prick. All I can tell you is hang in there and take one day at a time. Murphy is doing ok but I would feel better if I could get his numbers down which we are still trying to do. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions

Dog Laws & Legislation > Deramaxx adverse effects

Murphy

Dogs are angels- with fur!

I'm sorry to hear about your dog, but this doesn't happen to all dogs taking Deramaxx. Murphy has been on it for some time now but a low dosage and he hasn't had any problems at all, he takes half a 75 mg pill every day. I have not heard anyone else having problems with Deramaxx and Vets are usually in tune to this, they wouldn't prescribe it if it was harmful to dogs. Of course just like flea meds and other meds some dogs react badly to them just like humans do. Good luck to you and your dog.

Does anyone have problem with weak back legs if their dog has diabetes. I know it is a side effect, but I was wondering do you have any suggestions to strengthen the legs or anything that may help? Murphy isn't in pain but his back legs are getting weaker and I would like to do something to try to strengthen if possible. Thanks!

Dog Health > K-9 ADVANTIX II IS TERRIBLE

Murphy does great on K9 Advantix and has been on it for quite some time, we changed from Frontline Plus because it wasn't working on him anymore plus he had bad reactions to it but no problems since changing to Advantix. I agree with what everyone else says, all dogs are different and react differently just like people so don't blame the product. Some people are allergic to aspirin but that doesn't mean everyone needs to stop taking it. Adjust medications accordingly to your dogs own needs just like people do.

Dog Health > Dog with high liver values.....I need advice please!
Murphy

Murphy also had high liver values and no symptons whatsoever, the first thing the vet did was put him on Denamarin a liver supplement for a month. The values went down so we cut back to three days a week, his values are fine now and he is on denamarin for life. I have hear the same stories from others also, denamarin is a great product and I would highly suggest starting your dog on this but check with the vet first to be on safe side.

Murphy was just diagnosed with Diabetes a month ago, still having symptons and will be tested for Cushings in a week, good chance he has this too. I know it's very difficult to treat diabetes with Cushings, does anyone have a dog with this issue and how are you dealing with it and how are they doing?

Murphy

Murphy had the exact same thing happen to him last year at age 8, went in for dental found high liver levels so he was immediately put on Denamarin. It has worked great his numbers have gone down 50% of what they were and no more problems. I will be keeping him on this for the rest of his life but after numbers normalized we cut it down to only Mon, Wed, and Friday. Good luck this stuff works wonders!

Dog Health > Nose Bleeding and Nasal Tumors, Help Please!

Murphy

Dogs are angels- with fur!

Barked: Wed May 29, '13 1:24pm PST
Thanks for the well wishes everyone, Murphy sends you a wet kiss! After we got the lab work back found out today he is Diabetic and has to go on insulin injections twice a day. Vet wasn't sure if nose bleed was because of that but that is what we are hoping and praying for. All his symptons lead to the diabetic diagnosis so since he never had a nosebleed before and he hasn't had any more bleeding at all and no other signs we are just going to keep an eye on that and focus on the diabetes. I am not happy about diabetes but would much rather have this than cancer, I have experience with diabetes in dogs from our childhood pet so am familiar with giving injections collecting urine etc. Will try to keep everyone updated. Thanks again!

The Vet said nasal bleeding in dogs has nothing in common with human nosebleeds, the causes are totally different and much more serious. Nosebleeds in humans can be nothing in dogs they are always serious.
