hughug Don't give up hope yet...keep looking! I've been checking AR craigslist also, since you never can tell...hughug

It is crazy how common his coloring and body shape is... I didn't realize this until after I started looking at "found dog" ads... And to top it off, there is a dog that hangs around my college campus that also looks very similar to him! shrug

Choosing the Right Dog > Ever "misjudged" a breed?

I'm sure I've misjudged several breeds, but that's probably due to not having ever met a well bred or well trained example of the breed. Two that come to mind are the Pomeranian and the Chihuahua. I've only ever met the ones that are extremely high strung, yappy, and nippy. Right now I have a neighbor whose Chihuahua barks at anything and everything, constantly. It's extremely annoying and I think to myself "argh, a yappy ankle biter Chihuahua" but I do know he's just not trained or socialized(the neighborhood dogs always steer clear of him because he just barks in their faces when they come over). It's difficult not to judge the breed as a whole when all I've ever met are like that. red face shrug

Roxy-Glad no one was hurt in the fire and that it wasn't too horribly bad. Hope you're able to get it all put out soon! hug

I enjoyed all the photos!! Especially puppy pics!! big grin

Happy birthday Bunny!

There was some issue with the rental agreement for the new place...they want us to sign a five year contract!! shock After a lot of back and forth badgering, we agreed to a two year contract. We are going to look at the new revised contract this weekend, if they try to sneak in the five year thing, we're going to back out and look for a different place. *sigh* meditate This sort of thing has happened to my dad in years past, the people assume since he's a foreigner, he can't read Chinese(it's common for foreigners to be able to speak, but not read Chinese), especially legalese, so they try to sneak things into the contracts. So much drama... confused But, it has cemented my resolve to learn to both read and speak the language, it'll take me a long time because I'm a slow learner, but I can't wait until I can read the language with ease(or at least without having to resort to a dictionary every other word)! way to go

The 17th is the last day of class for this semester and for my final in one of the classes I have to do a power point presentation...which is difficult since I don't have that program on my computer!frown Hopefully I'll figure something out...

My birthday is coming up so I decided to skip out on that one day of class and go home to visit my parents (and my Tasha and Alvin!). I got permission to bring Alvin back with me when I return! dancing Too bad Tasha has to wait another month. frown

You can call the vet and describe the symptoms to see if the vet thinks it's serious enough to bring him in, if it is, your mom might be more willing to drive you.

Is he still behaving this way? Maybe check for a high pitched noise or buzzing sound. Sometimes strange noises freak dogs out, especially if they can't pin point it and it's high pitched, hurting their ears. thinking

Puppy Place > Feeling guilty about socializing?

Personally, I would continue the socialization and start the puppy class. In my uneducated, non vet opinion, keeping a pup cooped up in isolation during its formative weeks doesn't sound like a good start in life. However, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the symptoms of Parvo and keep a close eye on your pup.

Chicks!cloud 9 Today on my way to school, I was waiting at a red light and what do you think the vendor there was selling? Ducklings!!!! It took all of my willpower to continue driving when the light turned green. So cute and yellow and fuzzy.... cloud 9 Maybe if he's still there when I go back home I'll get a photo.

Yes, Tasha and Alvin will get to live with me when I move, I'm excited about that! dancing Just two more months. Maybe less, we might be signing the lease for the new place before our current lease is up, that way we can move at our leisure and clean the new place and get packed/unpacked a little at a time, instead of all in one or two days. Today the air conditioning guys are coming over to look at our air conditioning units and give an estimate of how much it'll cost to take them out and install them in the new place. We have two large ones and three little ones, so it might be a little pricy.

That's sad about Harley, I really like him, he's the type of dog I like when it comes to mutts. frown Hopefully he will find a new home soon and the tension will ease up at your place. hug

Well, gotta go. I hope everyone has a great day! wave

Dog Health > running around like she saw a ghost?

Does she appear frightened when she does this? Or do you think it might be a play style? thinking

I've never observed this behavior in my dogs, but I have seen my past cats do this in play, as well as my current rabbit, also in play(but for opposite reasons as a cat!). The cats would do run like mad to a hiding spot, watch for someone to walk by and jump out at them, or if no one came by, would run like mad to another spot and do the same thing. My current rabbit will just be sitting there calmly and suddenly will dart into his cage, wait a moment, dart to the empty bottom bookshelf, then dart under my chair, he will occasionally do a binky(hop straight in the air) while darting. It's a fun game.

Just observe her body language and see if she appears to be playing a game or appears scared of something(there may be a new noise she is hearing). Or gently rub your hands over her body and see if she flinches if you touch her somewhere. If she's uncomfortable, she may be looking for a space where she feels comfortable but can't find it. thinking

Yesterday was a beautiful spring day, so I opened the windows of my room to allow the breeze to come in, which was wonderful. One of my neighbors across the street has several sweet smelling plants on their roof which are in bloom, so there was a really nice smell coming in with the breeze. cloud 9 However, a few hours later I noticed a distinctly different odor wafting in...stinky tofu! shock I quickly closed the windows and went outside to confirm my suspicions. Yup, a new shop owner specializing in making the nasty smelling stuff was in business down the street! confused Rats. frown That stuff is disgusting in both smell and taste(yes I've tasted it! I'd rather eat normal tofu, which I also dislike!), makes me doubly glad I'm moving soon!

Which brings me to some good news, we found a place and will be moving after our current contract expires, in June. cheer Just a few months and Tasha and Alvin will be able to come up! happy dance

Last week I went on an all day bike trip into the mountains with some friends. It was fun, but I had to walk my bike up the steep hills(although it was great coming back, mostly downhill!) and was completely exhausted by the time we got to the restaurant at the top. I'll share a few photos:

Saw some birds I hadn't seen before and stopped to take their picture, but just as I was about to take the photo, a tiny dog came running out of the woods, scaring the birds off. I hurridly took a photo of them so I can identify them later(haven't gotten around to that yet).

It took me several tries to get a good photo of this caterpillar, it kept moving really fast.

Wow! Lots of crazy weather! shock I love the midwest, but I do not miss the tornadoes! laugh out loud I don't mind the trade-off of typhoons and earthquakes instead... wink I'll probably change my mind on that once typhoon season starts, though...shh

Many great photos, love the turtle! cloud 9 About 3 or 4 years ago I got a photo of a snapping turtle in my dad's pond, it's shell was completely covered with moss, didn't know it was a turtle at first.

I love to take pictures of scenery and animals, and I have a fairly decent camera, but would love to get a better quality one that will allow me to take micro shots, really close, close ups. My camera does ok with it, but not as good as I would like. Also I would like to take pictures of the night sky, my current camera doesn't take dusk or night photos very well. Once in a great while I'll get a decent shot, but I've missed some awesome night scenes.

Well, have a good day and stay safe, all! wave

Flicka is correct, the few rescues there are here are stretched to the limit, in both space and funds. I contacted one of them several months back when there was another stray I was trying to help(the one I named Shannon, I believe I mentioned her before), but basically they weren't able to do anything. Here's one of the rescues, which house over 1,000 dogs and cats:

TUAPA

There's another one that I've mentioned here before that takes in the worst of the worst cases, the strays that need urgent medical care. They do spay/neuter/release with dogs as well as cats, simply because they don't want to euthanize them for lack of space.

Fortunately Shannon had a happy ending, one of the people who stopped in to feed her were able to slip a rope over her head and put her in their van. The last time I stopped in that town, I saw her being walked by an elderly gentleman, they both looked happy. happy dance

I would be very shocked if the construction workers chipped in to help with vet costs, I'm kinda surprised that they even built a shelter for the dog. I'm going to try to at least put a collar on him and maybe get him used to it and a leash. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to afford to take him to the vet and get help for his mange. There are so many strays around here, I have to basically learn to turn a blind eye to them, because there's really nothing I can do. But every once in awhile one appears that just tugs at my heart strings and I just *have* to help, even if it's just sharing my lunch, and this is one of them. Yesterday I named him Rusty(actually I named him Rusty Burger after the hamburger joint on 3rd Rock From the Sun! red face he loves hamburgers...)

Dunlop, your drive thru experience is much more interesting than my older sisters and my brothers, their stories made me doubly thankful I've never had to work in fast food! Although I have horror stories of my own from working in a children's hospice. frown

I had a lot of fun yesterday. I got to go to a TV station and learn how they broadcast news stories. I was able to work the sound mixer and go to commercial while other students tried their hands at being reporters. I would really have to work on my timing if I ever wanted to work in that business! laugh out loud

Have a good day, all!wave
