Since I only get my dogs from reputable breeders, they require spay/neuter contract. So, I will probably end up telling them that the dog will be for show (which it won't be). Suki Tireless     Barked: Fri Apr 22, '11 9:22am PST  I just want to do what is the absolute best for my dogs. I'm borderline OCD about it! But then I think of all the millions of dogs dying in shelters every year and think "how could adopting one of those dogs not be the best thing?" I'm really on the fence about it right now. My dogs have had no spay-related problems and I don't know anyone's dog who had. One of my friends has an intact female with inctontinence. I found the cutest dog on petfinder in my local shelter. She is 16 weeks old (will be spayed before being adopted) and is a Cocker Spaniel/Labrador Retriever Mix. Thanks for helping me change my way of thinking. Suki Tireless     Barked: Fri Apr 22, '11 8:52am PST  For dogs? No. For people? Yes. I take St. John's Wort for mood swings during PMS. Very helpful! lol But, I wouldn't give it to a dog. For anxiety in dogs, I recommend trying essence of holly. You just put a few drops on their tongue. Suki Tireless     Barked: Fri Apr 22, '11 8:42am PST  Lucille makes a lot of good points. If the dogs are going to be working, I can totally understand docking. But for dogs that are simply going to be companions, I don't see the point. I think the responsible thing to do would when a breeder (reputable) is taking deposits and putting people on a waiting list for their puppies, they should ask if they want this dog as a working dog or just a companion. The puppies going to working homes should be docked and the pups going to companion homes shouldn't be. I think that is just common sense. Most of today's terriers are companions and docking their tails is just pointless.
