Dog Health > Thoughts on no rabies vaccine in Texas

If your dog were to ever bite somebody you would be in trouble. I wouldn't risk it. Quite frankly, the odds of your dog having a reaction to the vaccine are very slim. I think most "vaccine danger" stuff is blown up way out of proportion.

If he shuts down that badly with "discipline" then it's time to look for other methods. I think it's important to make sure you do not set up your dog to fail. If something goes wrong, then that's usually because somewhere you goofed up. Pottied in the house? Should have been crated or watched. Destroyed something? Should have been crated or watched.
For now treat this dog like a puppy. Anytime you cannot, for whatever reason, actively watch your dog (watching TV in the same room is not actively watching) either crate your dog or tether him to you with a leash. Always reward, reward, reward good behavior with treats, praise, toys, whatever works best for your dog. Build your dog's confidence and your relationship. Consistency is key to solving anything!

Raw Food Diet > Starting raw, afraid of bone hazards

I never, ever see bony bits in my dogs stools which tells me the stomach is doing it's job breaking everything down.

Not the refrigerated ones, they're too moist. I forgot what it's called... You can also cut Zuke's Mini's into small pieces.

Dog Health > DAPP Vaccination?
Pookie
plush destroyer |
| Barked: Tue Dec 18, '12 3:00pm PST | | | | | Wow, this forum has really changed.
ALL healthy dogs should get at least one DAPP vaccination (series if a puppy) in it's lifetime. Not vaccinating is as foolish as over vaccinating. Distemper and parvo are NOT something to mess with and can be life-threatening. I see puppies come in on a weekly basis with parvo and get put down or go home with a $2000 bill because their owner didn't vaccinate them or bought vaccines from the feed store. Do not trust a feed store to properly store vaccines; this is your dog's life in your hands. One DAPP vaccination is sufficient for lifetime immunity.
The lepto vaccine is something only you can decide on. How prevalent is lepto in your area? Do you have a lot of wildlife where you live? Do you go hiking/camping with your dog frequently? These are all things to consider. The lepto vaccine can cause serious side effects, but if your dog gets lepto that can be life-threatening. You must weigh the pros and cons, factoring in your lifestyle and area.
