Saying Goodbye: Memorials & Support > bone cancer

Dolly

I'm spoiled but- not rotten!

Barked: Sun Jun 9, '13 1:44pm PST
hughughug We lost our Dolly to bone cancer 2 years ago this Aug. It's heartbreaking! We chose not to amputate, Dolly was 8 years old and had some arthritis so we decided it would be too hard on her. Usually by the time they are diagnosed there is some metastases to ther parts of the body. Our vet's advice was to take her home and spoil the heck out of her, which we did. She did fine except for some limping for a couple of months. At the end she was having a little trouble breathing (it had spread to her lungs which from what I read is very common) and we knew it was time.
I do know of a Saint who had cryo surgery and chemo but he only lived a couple of months longer than Dolly did.
I am so so sorry to hear of your boy being diagnosed. hughughug
Dolly was diagnosed on June 11 and lived until Aug 28th.
Enjoy the time you have left is my advice. Remain cheerful and spoil the heck out of him! We cooked Dolly's favorite foods, took her for rides, walks and anything we knew she enjoyed.
Its very common for the extra large breeds to develop bone cancer. But it hasn't stopped me from sharing my life with another. They are wonderful dogs! hughughug

that's just about the same recipe I use Flicka! Except I use a regular banana. I freeze in the silver cupcake liners and just store in freezer bags when frozen. way to go I tried the ice cube trays but had a heck of a time popping them out laugh out loud

I checked my bags of Orijen, too, and checked online and see no canola oil either. shrug But for the record I wouldn't be so unhappy about Fromm. Its an excellent food also!

Food & Nutrition > The Honest Kitchen recall

Toby

Got food?

Barked: Wed Jun 5, '13 5:55pm PST
Best thing is though that THK was extremely pro-active about this. They recalled their food and sent out emails as soon as they suspected something. The salmonella was in some parsley that had been sold to a human food company, NOT THK. They tested their food and didn't show any salmonella.

I had a box of the Zeal at the time and sent in the form they sent me and I received a check for the amount of the box less than a week later. I call that very responsible! That recall has not put me off their food, in fact it has made me an even more loyal customer!

No Greenies here. Have you ever tried the Paragon chews? Much healthier and very digestible! Fun shapes like hedgehogs and toothbrushes and really work for keeping teeth clean!

Food & Nutrition > Sick of the dog food snobs!!
Tessie

Which way did- they go?

My husband calls me a dog food snob. Crazy thing is I am also a people food snob and a cat food snob! I feed my dogs/cats the best I can (They eat Fromm, Orijen, Weruva and THK) I am a vegan as is my hubby and we eat organics as much as possible, I look for GMO's and non-GMO's and so far it helps! My Saint eats 2 cups of Orijen and 1 can of Weruva a day, my 2 hounds eat THK, my cats eat Fromm canned and a little dry to munch on (I get to sleep past 5 every day! smile ) I do refuse treats at the doggy daycare for my youngest hound (he is the only one that goes) and treats at the bank and PetSmart or Petco or neighbors that are well meaning. I am also a pet sitter and the dogs and cats in my care get Plato, Natures Instinct, Cloud 9, Dr Beckers Bites, Bravo, Whole Life and assorted others. I do feed what they are all ready eating but when I see its beneful I do try to explain to people what I have read about dogs becoming very ill from that food or if I saw Milo's chicken jerky (among others) I would print out what the FDA and what The Whole Dog Journal had to say about it and leave that with their bill. You can educate without being nasty.
