Liam is only a year old, right?
Looks like it is probably a puppy wart!
They are very contagious to other young dogs, so if he wrestles with other dogs, that's probably why he got it. The most common place to find them is on the mouth. They usually go away in three to six weeks. It's always good to have a bump checked out by a vet though, in case it's a mast cell tumor or something else that you'd want to get out immediately.

Choosing the Right Dog > Help! Driving with Pit Bull mix through BSL state.

Hey guys,
My friend just posted this on her facebook page and she isn't getting any helpful info. I have no idea what to tell her. Do you guys know?

"Does anyone have experience driving through states with BSL while with your dog? I know Denver is terrible and they will take your pibble, but almost all the states I will have to drive through on I-40, have some towns with BSL (TN, AR, OK) and I can't map every single town. I know I would lose it if one of these places confiscated and killed Drala. None of the pitbull threads say how to find out about each state/town. Humane Society, maybe? Help!"

Thanks for taking a look. I didn't ask my friend questions about contracts or anything. Just was there to be supportive since they were nervous about the surgery. She is recovering nicely as far as I know.

I know nothing, zip, zero about breeders. Always adopt my dogs and am very involved in rescue. But a friend bought a dog from this breeder a few years back. The dog now has bad hip dyspalsia.
Wondering if it's a fluke or were there warning signs?

I haven't even looked at the web site myself. I wouldn't even know what to look for!! smile

Thanks!

So strange to be reading this now. Last night, I noticed Henry's belly freckles were pretty much gone. I don't know when this happened! I found pictures from not that long ago that show his freckles.

He's been having some allergy issues on his belly for the past three months, so I guess I have been focusing on that and didn't notice that the freckles were disappearing. I've been rubbing Zymox on his belly and dabbing neosporin on some places that got bad. He been all clear now for a couple weeks, but his freckles are GONE!! What caused this?

Dog Health > I am now the proud owner of a one eyed dog....

A friend of mine from the dog park had to have her dog's eye removed after he got a tick born infection that also infected one of his eyes. He was less than a year when this happened, but it doesn't affect him at all. He runs and plays like every other dog. My dog was diagnosed with juvenile cataracts when he was two years old--they never progressed, but I did a lot of research, and from what I understand--dogs adjust very well to blindness--especially if it's just one eye. Your baby might be a little more cautious about stairs and jumping onto the sofa, but I bet he'll be back to his old self in no time. They say dog's don't rely on sight nearly as much as scent and hearing.
Many well wishes, and I bet you won't notice much of a difference at all.

Rescue, Adoption & Happy Endings > Dogster Magazine: Should Fenced-In Yards Be a Requirement for Dog Adopters?

I have become heavily involved with a rescue group in my area called Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue. Maybe we have a unique situation in new york city, but if we required a fenced in yard, we'd never be able to adopt out any dogs. None of us have yards!! And I can 100% guarantee you that city dogs with no yards live a great life. Every morning, Henry and I join about 100 other dogs in the 40 acre park down the block for off-leash hours. We have EVERY kind of dog you can think of— from border collies and australian shepherds to bernese mountain dogs and great danes. The run, wrestle, and play fetch. It's really great. No yard mean lots more walks too. (It IS a difficult place to have a dog with any sort of aggression issues.)

On our web site we actually have the following written by the woman who started the rescue:
"We have an extensive application process with vet reference, personal references and home visit required. We are all apartment dwellers and we are NOT snobs about city living. I myself was turned down by a beagle rescue 10 years ago because I didn't have a fenced in yard (or any yard). I adopted my beagle from the city pound and she has the best life a dog could wish for - with three-four walks a day at a huge park a block from my apartment. I have met with many city dwellers who are so grateful to be treated with respect and not immediately condemned for not having a house with a fenced yard. What we care about most is that you will provide a stable, loving and safe home for the dog you adopt. Adopting a dog is a financial commitment and we expect that the dog you adopt will be on par with your other family members in terms of health care and overall care."

Can't imagine she is a Patterdale terrier! Probably a terrier/lab/unknown mix. Not sure what she really is though because she's so small. This is how they found her.
Luna and her brothers
She was a neglect case. Her blonde brother is in a rescue in NC. Sadly, her other brother didn't make it out. He was put to sleep within 24 hours of entering the shelter because they said he wasn't very adoptable because he looked more like a lab.
disgusting.

I didn't read all the other responses but here is my experience which has been only positive:
I live in a small apartment in Brooklyn, NY.
Henry is my dog. He is a wirefox or jack russel mix: He is great with other dogs and was easy to train. His biggest issue was being destructive, but he grew out of that. He had lots of energy until he was about 3 years old. Now he is a couch potato. I love him to death and think he would be so adaptable to any situation. He is a total clown and big time snuggler. His biggest issue now is that he steals food from babies at the park during off-leash hours. LOL!

Annie was my Southpaws foster: She was some sort of terrier mix and amazing with other dogs. Lots of energy, but no bad habits. All around adorable great dog! (see her profile on my page) She lives in Rhode Island now with a new baby sister and is doing great.

I am now fostering a 7 month old wirehaired terrier mix named Luna. She was found with her brother living in squalor in a backyard. She is the sweetest thing ever. Great with other dogs and people. Quiet and calm inside and playful outside.

Honestly-If you are looking at petfinder--look for dogs living in a foster home and you will get a great idea of personality and energy level. Better than generalizing about terriers in my opinion.

Here is my current foster: SOOOOO CUUUUUTE!
