King of the- sofa..when mom's- not looking |
| Barked: Mon Nov 24, '08 11:55pm PST | | | | | I got my name after mom spent several days (yes, days) looking at websites with stuff about Japanese names on them. She wanted something unique, simple, and fun to say. She didn't even care about the mind-numbing hours of research, because she was looking for the right one, and she wasn't going to settle on just anything .
Finally, she came across Kino, which isn't exactly a name, but a surname (a family name, or last name, like Smith - which was originally derived from the occupation of a blacksmith)
"Ki" in Japanese means "tree" or "wood", and "No" means "field" or "wilderness" although, when the two are used together; as in "Kino", it becomes a surname, and is no longer recognized as the literal translation of "tree field".
Mom thought it was appropriate since "shiba" means "brushwood" (also meaning "little" or "small") and"tree"/"wood" meant almost the same thing... well, that, and because I'm just plain old awesome enough to warrant having my own last name.

Wow, I can tell from reading the posts on here that I am in very good company! I think all Shiba parents must come from championship bloodlines cuz they are intelligent, creative, caring individuals who obviously have high standards when it comes to canine companionship.
I sure am looking forward to getting to know all of you!

| Barked: Sun Nov 23, '08 9:13pm PST | | | | | Hello everyone!
I'm a year-and-a-half-old male Shiba Inu who was recently adopted by my family, so I'm new to Dogster, but my brothers have been members for a while.
I couldn't stay with my old family because they had to move and I couldn't go with them. I was lucky enough to find a new home before I ever saw the inside of a shelter.
My new mom has some experience with lots of different breeds because she used to foster, but she's never had a Shiba Inu before. She did some research and knows I can be difficult at times, but she's pretty stubborn, too, and she promised to take good care of me. (I think she's already in love with me, but don't tell her I said so)
I'm happy to say we've been getting along great so far!
Mom and dad haven't named me yet. Guess they can't find anything suitable for my obvious royalty... Does anyone have any suggestions?

Got treats? |
| Barked: Sat May 27, '06 3:17pm PST | | | | | I'm in south-central PA and the fee to license a neutered/spayed dog is $6.00 and an unaltered dog is $8.00. It's cheaper for elderly or disabled people by 2 bucks either way. Personally I think they should raise the unaltered dog fee because it might discourage people from being BYB's. In case you haven't heard, PA is like, in the top 5 states for puppymills. It's sad. | | | | |
