this is a great place to research dog foods. Blue and Wellness are certainly better than SD but there are so many better than SD! wink

Food & Nutrition > What do you think about Non-fat yogurt mixed with dry food instead of wet food?

applauseapplauseapplause Vance!! I agree with the moisture content! I don't know why people are so afraid to feed canned only or raw or a good dehydrated raw like THK which is a step above canned. I wish I had time to make homecooked or to go raw (I am afraid of all that goes into it plus my Saint won't even touch RMB's) but I try to go with a more species appropriate diet for all my animals (cats included).

A good thing to watch that speaks of this is Dr Karen Becker's videos about best and worst pet foods.

All 3 of mine (1 eats Orijen and canned Weruva, 2 eat the Honest Kitchen) get plain organic yogurt in their breakfast every morning. I had to start the new one out with very small amounts and gradually increase it, but yogurt is very healthy for them so if your dog tolerates it I would definitely say go for it.

I would go off on anyone that fed my dogs anything like Beneful. Some are saying now that feeding Beneful has killed their dogs

http://www.dogster.com/forums/Food_and_Nutrition/thread/7503 97

I am a food snob when it comes to my dogs, cats and my family.I have refused treats at PetSmart for my dogs, the bank, and even the daycare one of my dogs goes to. I carry the treats my dogs do get so if people really want to give them one I can be sure what they get is healthy and made in the USA.

So, I would tell this person no, my dog cannot have that food and if they were to ask why I would tell them, but no way would I allow it to continue.

I'm so sorry but there are things to do, for one try this site they have helped numerous dogs get back home

Fido Find

Don't just call shelters and pounds, go there and look in person. Call every police station in the area, call every Vet's office and fax or mail them a copy of the poster. Hang posters in grocery stores, gas stations, laundromats, lightpoles, etc, anywhere people might see it.

Tags can fall off so if not chipped a shelter may not know who he belongs to, that's why checking in person as often as possible really helps.

Good luck!!

We had a dog that went through HW treatment the conventional way. I wouldn't advise anything else. Just because somethings says natural doesn't mean its safe. Last I read apricot pits (seeds) contain cyanide. shrug

No, it says it will be available mid-May. I'd love to though. I feed 2 of my dogs THK and love their products!

Got food?

Toby had a TPLO done by a board certified ortho special -ist. After 2 weeks of keeping him very pain free he was allowed to go for a VERY short walk in the yard. We did range of motion exercises with him every day. We tried the crate but with the cone (tried the boo boo loon type, he reached around and got to the incision anyway) it was hard to turn in the crate for him. We kept him in my husbands hone office on a big comfy ortho bed. Kevin even got a blow up mattress to sleep with him. After 4 weeks he could go on longer walks and after 6 weeks we back to pretty much normal. Cost a little over $3000

Just wondering if you meant saline like is used for contacts? Having a Saint Bernard the first thing that comes to my mind is entropion (eyelashes grow into the eye) but any time the discharge is a greenish color could mean infection. I would ask the vet to take a look. I'd use saline solution, but I have it here all the time.

thank you! I went to see an orthopedic surgeon yesterday. One surgery is where they cut a piece of the bone to give the other bone a chance to catch up (growing). Only thing is my growth plates have closed a little so they are thinking the other surgery which is going in and straightening the bones using plates and screws. And with our luck that one is probably double the cost. I will be getting the surgery in a few months when the growth plates close a little more.
