All of the apartments I've lived in over the last five years required a doctors note though I suspect if I didn't have an invisible disability they wouldn't have all asked for it. Don't forget that a Service Dog isn't a pet technically so you don't need to pay a pet deposit or anything of the sort.

It doesn't stop him from doing it though. 19 false indications on his part today. I ignored the first one this morning because it was literally right after I tested and ate (maybe five minutes prior) but he still brings my meter and sits there ... and sits there ... and sits there. In general if I don't take the meter from him within 20 minutes he will lay down with it in his mouth. :/
Ignoring false indications doesn't work he's a Malinois and has no off switch.

I second the pepper spray thing. When we moved to Indianapolis there were stray / owned but unleashed dogs everywhere and after one almost-bite to my SD's face I always carried pepper spray. My SD did so much to protect me, it was the least I could do to protect him.

He goes boating with me all the time but personally, I would take him white water rafting. The likelihood of something going wrong and him getting hurt, or worse, is way too high for my liking.
To each their own but I wouldn't do it.

| Barked: Wed May 15, '13 6:35am PST | | | | | I did take that into consideration at first however Cru is "alerting" right after I eat / right before bed most days when I'm at a normal level and will continue to remain at a normal level for 3+ hours.
He also brings me my meter literally ten minutes after I just tested. While many of his alerts are "true alerts" I'm sure that for at least a third of them he's just being a Malinois and is doing it to get my attention. He won't "fake alert" when we are playing ball or tug or on the rare occasion he's hanging out on the couch with me and he's never done it at night either.
He -could- be ahead of the meter but I've never heard of a dog that's hours ahead of the meter. Unless I'm totally wrong and there really is such a thing.

| Barked: Tue May 14, '13 8:25pm PST | | | | | Hurray for Cruaich being an awesome sixmonth old pup. Love this (not so) little guy to bits and it's been a joy having a dog that will retrieve without me practically having to beat it out of him the way I always had to with my previous dog Terrowin.
Once Cru-cru figured out to bring me my test meter whenever he sensed a high or a low of my bloodsugar he was all over it. Loved it as a matter a fact however my super-sneaky Malinois now will bring me my test meter when I'm not low or high just for the attention / praise / yummies. I've been waiting it out / ignoring wrong the same way I did during the initial training but my goodness. He just won't give up. This afternoon he sat it front of me, test meter in mouth for 32 minutes.
I'm happy he alerts on highs and lows (better on lows than highs. High alerts are pretty crummy still) but I don't need him following me around with the test meter all day long. Any suggestions guys?
I don't want to correct him and cause avoidance because of it but I just really need him to take a break for a second and be a dog and fetch a ball instead of my test meter

| Barked: Mon Feb 18, '13 6:00pm PST | | | | | The months after my PSD Terrowin died were hard for me. Finding a breed / breeder I liked wasn't easy but I managed. I found a great Working Malinois breeder and the dam and sire of the current litter were extremely mellow dogs.
I bought a pup. In fact the breeder let him go at 6 weeks which was great for training. He had passed his CGC at 8 weeks and by that time was doing 3 minute out of sight sit / down stays. Perfect dog for my active go-go lifestyle. Everything is progressing amazing with him.
However. Malinois aren't a breed that very people fanatic. VERY handler focused, which is the reason I fell in love with the breed but he doesn't give a seconds notice to other people but they sure notice him and I get about 500 questions about him on a daily basis. The most common being "What breed is he?"
Now most people have NO IDEA what a Malinois is but those that do practically yell at me for using an "aggressive breed" as an SD (in training) He's dark. He doesn't look like a typical Mal. Would it be wrong of me to just say "German Shepherd Mix" when they ask.
I'm getting pretty peeved about people lecturing me about my choice of SD and the ensuing explanation on my part of his lineage and how well I've socialized him and blah blah blah.
I know any non "typical" SD breed is prone to scrutiny by others but I really feel like tearing my hair out over this

Terrowin PSD- CGC
I'm a helping- hound. Arooooo |
| Barked: Sun Jan 20, '13 6:38pm PST | | | | | I looked up the laws in the area (Missouri) and it's something along the line of "Trainers needs to be an accredited training school for Trainers to have access rights" and I'm not sure if the school is accredited or whatever in that regard or how to find out if it is.
I want to contact someone about what's been happening here because it NEEDS to stop and it needs to stop asap but I don't know who to contact about it. Any help in this area would be much appreciated.
It's unfair what they are doing and it's screwing legit-handlers over. I have a PSD candidate (soon to be in training) and I don't even have access rights with him in Missouri because he's a PSD not a seeing/hearing eye dog or aids with mobility.
I'm just at a loss. My mother, who's paying for my education, doesn't want me to quit and I don't want to quit until I KNOW that someone is doing something to fix the illegal-stuff that's going on here because someone NEEDS to be punished but I just don't know who to call / e-mail about this since the news stations aren't doing anything.
