Behavior & Training > Do shock collars hurt?
Hucky and- Ringo

| Barked: Wed Jun 19, '13 11:25am PST | | | | | I never tried a shock collar, but a few years ago I was visiting my nephew and he had just put in an invisable fence. I wanted to see how cruel it was and what the dog felf so I took the collar off the dog, put it on me and like a fool, I walked over the line. WOW, that's all I can say. I'll never do that again and I will never put anything like that on any of my dogs no matter how untrainable they are. | | | | |

Lil Girl - R.I.P- Sweetheart

| Barked: Wed Jun 19, '13 10:22am PST | | | | | I have no guesses as to the breed but I would like to suggest a birthday idea. When I found Lil Girl, my beagle, she was on her death bed. All bones showing, she could hardly walk and she was full of porky pine needles. I took her in and took care of her and decided to keep her. I knew she was about 1- 1 1/2 yrs old. I made her birthday on May 21st. because that was the day I found her and gave her a new life. | | | | |

Behavior & Training > "Those kind of people" rant

It's just like a car, if you don't renew your registration, your car in no longer registerd, and what will you get for that if caught driving it? A nice size ticket. As for the bite, you're lucky chargers weren't press against you. That would mean court, fines and possibly a ruling to have the dog put down. As far as the dog/dogs getting out of the yard, well, as a dog owner it's your responsibility to keep your dogs safe. Believe me, I had my share of Huck escaping from the yard, nobody complained in fact they would lead him back home, but I did something about fixing the fence and making it escape proof.

Small Dogs > Picky eater!! How do i get her to eat her dog food?
Hucky and- Ringo

| Barked: Tue Jun 18, '13 9:02am PST | | | | | Ringo is a very picky eater and if he stalls on eating, Huck will make a run for it which is no good cause he's overweight as it is. I use to have to sit there and watch and wait for him to either get done eating or take it away. Now I put beef gravy on their food and just that little extra smell gets Ringo going. | | | | |

I don't do anything. I buy them each cow bones and they love chewing on them and at the say time, it's keeping their teeth clean

Behavior & Training > Why use 'leave it' instead of 'no'?
Hucky and- Ringo
1184791 |
| Barked: Tue Jun 11, '13 10:24am PST | | | | | I use NO for everything, but I say it by name. If Huck is drinking water and Ringo is barking at nothing, and I say NO, Ringo will stop barking and Huck will walk away from the water bowl. If I say No Ringo, he'll stop barking and Huck will continue drinking. If I want them both to stop doing something, for ex. when they start getting wild in the house, I'll say No Boys and they will both stop. We may use the word No alot in conversation, but I think they know by the tone of your voice when No is ment for them. I say there is no right or wrong word or words to use. You use whatever works for you. | | | | |

Dog Health > Question about Lymes shot
Hucky and- Ringo
1184791 |
| Barked: Fri Jun 7, '13 10:35am PST | | | | | I have been to 2 other vets in the area until I came upon the 1 I go to now. They are really nice peaple and the dr. really knows his stuff. But they all want to medicate for this that and the other thing, which is why I won't ask my vet about it cause he'll try his hardest to change my mind. I will keep the dogs on the heartworm.I don't use it all year, just the summer months, same as the flea prevention, but I don't think I want to keep going with the lymes shot. I just wanted others opinions on it. | | | | |

Dog Health > Question about Lymes shot
Hucky and- Ringo
1184791 |
| Barked: Fri Jun 7, '13 8:18am PST | | | | | Both my boys had lymes disease 2 1/2 yrs ago. Since then every year they have been getting the lymes shot. I have had many dogs since I bought my first house in 1979 and none of my dogs ever got anything except rabies/distemper shot. All but 1 died of old age. Not even flea prevention. If I found fleas I would just give them a flea dip. My boys get treated monthly for that, cause my present husband would flip if they brought fleas in the house. My question is, do you think I should continue the lymes shot? They are both due in July for it. And what about heartworm meds. They spend time outside during the day but at night they only go out to potty. The boys are basically indoor dogs cause that's what they prefer. They have a doggy door to do what they want but they choose to just stay in. I know alot of dogsters are against over medicating their dogs if they don't have too. I would just like to see your opinions. By the way, my yard is fenced in so they don't run free, but I do have a wooded lot on 1 side of me. | | | | |
