8.6lbs of fury- in a bow! |
| Barked: Fri May 24, '13 1:50pm PST | | | | | My friend with the 6 big dogs including the Pry I'm a bit scared of just text me at lunch about her new dog. #7. From a wolfdog rescue. That has fear bitten in the past. That she just got today. And can I let her dogs out on Monday the first day the new one will be left alone with the rest of them. Seriously do people not hear themselves when they make requests like this? | | | | |

Great photos Natasha! That bridge is crazy, too many stairs!
Last night I tried to get Jem to do her OB class homework (the wait) but she kept standing up so we just did spinning. Yaaaaay spiiiiiiiin!! I think she was a little tired because my friend stopped by with her terrier, that was some crazy running! Jem really liked her, they were both panting and tired but refused to stop playing. My friend had been on the way to someone's house when she saw my door open and came in, after the playing she went home and got the car because she wasn't sure her dog was going to make the rest of the walk.
Flicka- Nice shot of the boys!

They're so well trained and gentle I wouldn't be worried at all, I wanted to use them with Jewel too. I told her that as soon as she gets those puppies out of there I'm bringing the girls for a weekend.
I know the Pry was HUGE but I was sure he wasn't going to be bouncing around.
Thanks everyone. | | | | |

Poor little guy was dropped off while his owners were travelling through a strange town so it couldn't be traced back to them. Apparently they tied a note to him explaining why they couldn't keep him but still that's really sad. 7lbs toy male poodle named Chaos. I'm pretty sure I'll only have him long enough to get his vetting done and then he'll get snapped up.

Flicka - No worries, there are several young pups in the class and I'm being very casual, low expectation more about socializing then getting it right about it. I took a couple toys, was down on my hands and knees with her, lots of treats & praise and silly baby talk. We'll take a class in the fall and be more serious about learning then, I just couldn't get her into a puppy class. She needed this because I can see her shying away from the bigger dogs in class. Posting in B&T about it if anyone has advise.
The girls had a busy night last night! My dad texted that he was making burgers so I took the girls over for supper, then I took them to my friend's as Jem and her Daisy are trying to figure out playing with each other. Then when I got home a woman I know I was walking her two poodles by so I invited them into the yard to meet Jem. Her male took a shine to Jem right away and the two of them were ripping around the yard in less than two minutes.
Then this morning I put a sharp curve in the tunnel, that gave Jem a pause. She went through slowly a couple times to make sure the end was still there then ripped through the third time.
Hope things get better for you M&K. Maybe a nice take out supper? Not cooking or cleaning usually makes me feel happier.
Old houses- I have a door that closes itself so I have a painted rock to keep it open.

In the meantime you could put them on opposit sides of a babygate and toss treats to her when the baby wanders near the gate to teach her good things happen when baby's around.
Also I know it's hard but even 5 minutes of special time for her might make a world of difference. When the baby's down for a nap I'm sure you have a 100 things to do but take a moment, cuddle your dog, tell her she's the best and give her some kisses.

| Barked: Thu May 23, '13 9:01am PST | | | | | How do I properly introduce Jem to large dogs? Jewel doesn't like large dogs and I don't want Jem to be the same way because once we get into the OB ring it's going to be all big dogs she's going to be doing her group stays with.
My friend has several large dogs and we were there the other day but they'd never seen a small dog before so they were very curious about her! I was sitting on the floor and we only had one of their dogs in at a time and Jem did give a little nip to get each one to back up as they were looming to sniff her. She did get comfortable enough to get out of my arms and wander around but would come back when their dog tried to walk over and visit her.
We used her two calmest dogs which happen to be her two biggest!! A pry and a newfie mix but we both worried the others would get too excited and jump on her.
So did I do right or mess up? What should I do going forward? I plan to move in OB class next to some larger dogs, first class we were between a sheltie and a schuazer mix but there's a couple tibetan mastiff puppies that seem really mellow.

Choosing the Right Dog > Suspicious Breeder Has an "I am A Responsible Breeder" Article on Dogster Mag

| Barked: Wed May 22, '13 3:42pm PST | | | | | Here is is from his article,
"We haven’t been in this business long, and we've already been tested, when we discovered one of our younger dogs, Charcoal, had cryptorchidism -- meaning he had a retained testicle that did not fall into place. We had a choice: We could have had the retained testicle removed and tried to breed him, or we could have had him neutered.
But an unneutered dog with cryptorchidism has a very high risk of getting cancer. Moreover, it is a genetic flaw that could be passed on to his puppies.
I am certain there are plenty of breeders out there who would readily breed the dog. But we chose the most ethical path possible. Even though we had invested a significant amount of money and effort into Charcoal, we had him neutered."
And this is from their website,
"As you can see in the pictures, for our males we have one regular coat German Shepherd Dog, Blue, and one long haired German Shepherd Puppy, Charcoal. Because the long coat is a gene that is passed on, we know that Charcoal will have long haired German Shepherd Puppies and when Blue breeds with Lava, he should as well."
I have a hard time reading the website because of things like this "Believe us when we say that our female German Shepherd Dogs cannot wait for these boys to make them momma’s. They get really excited around these boys." so I don't know if they have posted on the site that they are down to one stud.

| Barked: Wed May 22, '13 3:27pm PST | | | | | I thought he couldn't use his long haired male as a stud because he's sooooo ethical? I love how he made it sound like it was such a hard decision because they'd put SO much work into him, uh huh the dog has no titles and is how old?
I thought my answer was pretty much as good as anything Toto would get from him. Some BS followed by a distractor.
