I'm not trying to force him to be social. I'm just a little perplexed because I was told that he was good with other dogs and people before I adopted him. I don't think I was lied to, because he was very sweet and social when he first met my family, including my dad. It could be that he's still having trouble adjusting to his new environment. But, I was just wondering if he could also be going through a fear period.

| Barked: Mon May 13, '13 7:34am PST | | | | | When exactly are the fear periods in a puppy? Link is around 5 or 6 months old, and has been very nervy since we got him. He's especially fearful of my dad and brother, though when we went to pick him up, he seemed fine with my dad. He aggresses at other dogs, which seems to be brought on by fear or excitement or both. Link is my first puppy, so I don't know if this is his fear period or what. How do I deal with these behaviors? | | | | |

Work ability takes priority over conformation for me, but only slightly. I want my dog to work sheep (my dream is to have a small flock of my own as well as trailing), but I do also want to compete in conformation. I want to be a balanced breeder, but I don't know if this is a realistic eventual goal to have. If I'm honest with myself, I'm not really sure yet about pretty much anything. That's why I'm here. To learn, and to figure things out.

I can't really gauge his intelligence yet, but I did manage to teach him "watch me" and "stop" in a very short time, and hopefully I can teach other commands later on. He's kind of stubborn, but that's nothing I don't deal with when it come to Jane. Aside from the occasional zoomies, he seems to be pretty mellow.

I probably should've stepped in before the bite, but I'm still unsure about how to let them take care of it on their own. He desperately needs to learn his manners around other dogs, but I don't want him to get hurt.
