Choosing the Right Dog > Chihuahuas and Terriers, what is the real story?

Good things come- in small- packages! |
| Barked: Fri Jul 1, '11 3:46pm PST | | | | | For my pups it doesn't seem like they are that similar. I have a mini bull terrier, a Yorkie terrier mix and a chi they are different in my opinion. I love both breeds but they seem to bring different stuff to the table.
My chi is playful and can keep up with my terriers although she is not as rambunctious and she doesn't need as much exercise. She knows when to turn the energy on and off. My terriers don't always know their off button lol.
The terriers love everyone and love to meet and greet, they are loyal but have an independent nature.
My chi is more wary of strangers and it takes her time to warm up to you. She also is more dependent and would rather be sitting on my lap while the other two are trying to find out what the cat is up to lol.
Both terriers and chi's are great but I think they are different

Chihuahua > Does a Chihuahua sound right for me?

Good things come- in small- packages! |
| Barked: Wed May 25, '11 8:29am PST | | | | | Hi, I am new to Chihuahuas as well but here is some of the stuff I learned. They are very loyal to their owners, can be a bit timid with strangers so lots of socialization would be a good idea. Mine is a nice balance of playful and clam; she will keep up with my other pups but also be the best kind of lap dog. I think that 1 to 2 walks a day, like what Enzo gets, will be perfect. I thought potty training would be really hard but she is picking it, so as long as you are patient training shouldn't be a problem.
You sound like a great candidate for a Chihuahua to me!

Puppy Place > Walking issues...stopping/resisting, crazy afterward
Tyson
It's Train or be- Trained! |
| Barked: Thu May 19, '11 9:36pm PST | | | | | Hello Giselle I am not sure how normal it is but Tyson used to do the same thing. He would walk fine some days and some days he would stop and attack who was walking him too. We just kept practicing and he stated to do better each month. Another thing we would do bring along treats on our walks and practice tricks like sitting or lay down to try to distract him. That worked for us. Good Luck! | | | | |
