RemoTheRed- 1994-2008 Recycle- Love--Adopt!     Barked: Fri Jun 7, '13 2:09pm PST  Annie's Mum, when our Remo was in liver failure our vet had us giving him sub-q fluids at home twice a day. 1/2 a bag of fluids in the a.m., 1/2 in the p.m. It kept him hydrated, helped support the liver and made things easier on his kidneys. I don't know if this is something you've considered. Ernie- Wigglesworth Have a Golden- day!     Barked: Fri May 31, '13 4:52pm PST  Well, we are cone-free for now, but Ernie bit off a piece of the glued skin earlier in the week and left a bit of a hole. It is granulated, healing, so he has some antibiotics just in case. His weight held, even with the poops. Burt lost a bit--about a pound. He continues to be much more active now that Ernie's here. Ernie- Wigglesworth Have a Golden- day!     Barked: Mon May 20, '13 8:08pm PST  prayers for all in the wake of tornadoes. stay safe, please. Ernie did ok during his surgery, but his heart rate dropped to 40 while he was under so he had to have a shot. I will always be thankful for Dr. M saving WINston when he was poisoned by Nutro/Menu Foods, and for the care shown the Crew during their last months. But today, I am livid. Simply LIVID! Ernie DID NOT go home with the 12 hr pain med shot on board which would keep him comfortable through the night. They RAN OUT of the shot with the dog ahead of Ernie in surgery. Ernie had a PAIN PILL - Rimadyl - instead of a 12 hr SHOT!!!!!!!!!!! And he went home with more pills. He's already had several manic episodes tonight where he's frantically trying to get to his incision. We are all on high alert. Sleep tonight? I doubt it. He has Burt's/Dixie's Comfy Cone on, but we're worried that if he tries hard enough he will be able to crush the side of the cone and get to his incision. His movements have the area looking pretty angry red. And, did I say that the same cells that hit Oklahoma with tornadoes are going to pass over us tonight with Thunderstorms, and Ernie is extremely phobic? Ernie- Wigglesworth Have a Golden- day!     Barked: Sun May 19, '13 5:36am PST  So, we tried to leave Ernie out of his kennel last night. Both he and Burt found room up on the bed. Worked for about 3 hrs, then #2 Son made some noise in the house and Ernie started barking. Let him out for a tinkle and we all went back to sleep. Until 5:15am. When Ernie discovered something he alone could smell underneath our bed. Scratch, scratch, scratch... on the hardwood! Let him out, then back in and into the kennel until 7:15am. Just checked under the bed. Yup. There was a tennis ball. Ernie has his neuter tomorrow. That should be fun. Burt & Ernie continue to play, on and off. Burt still feels he has to be the "Fun Police" every time Ernie gets too rambunctious. I think it's a hold over behavior from the accidental bite incident. Burt is really becoming quite the Boss! Last night, he tried to hump MY leg! NOT!!!!! He still is overly shy with strangers, but coming into his own as he takes control around the house. I can see them becoming best buds (over time). Burt- BlackPearl Shelter Dogs- Deserve a 2nd- Chance     Barked: Sat May 11, '13 6:12pm PST  well, we had an "incident" last night. Our living room is full of Mission-style furniture, even Lar's recliner has the wood arms with slats. Ernie loves to bound up onto Lar's lap for a snuggle when he feels Lar's ignoring him (there's a video on Ernie's pg of this). Yesterday Ernie was turning around on Lar's lap and his back paw went down between the recliner seat cushion and the frame. Total panic!!!!! Ernie started crying/howling and biting at the chair. Lar tried to put his hand down the side to see if he could free Ernie leg. Ernie panicked and bit Lar on the finger--chomped down and didn't let go. Ernie finally let go of Lar when he managed to wiggle his paw free. Lar has a deep puncture on both sides of his middle finger. Owie! Luckily, Ernie's paw is fine. Burt witnessed the whole thing--the howling, crying, Lar yelling & crying--and now he doesn't want to let Ernie near Lar. Every time Ernie makes a fast move to play with a ball or a stuffy, Burt challenges him, or gets up & stands between Ernie & Lar. Burt the protector... oh my!
