| Barked: Sun Feb 3, '13 4:42pm PST | | | | | Many ideas can be incorporated on a walk. Drop your gloves and have her run back to find it. Throw or hide a glove deep into the forest and have her find it. Go with a friend and have her find them. Stop periodically to do some training or tricks. Practice distance cues: that is the dog is running ahead or behind and you cue her to do a behavior at that distance. Environmental agility-jumping over benches, sending around objects and people,
You can find out how to train these: www.dogvideoindex.blogspot.com | | | | |

Choose where it is appropriate to reward (usually in a sit or down move.) Over the course of several training sessions, do a snakes and ladders approach to when you feed. When she's completed the entire sequence, then jackpot at the end.

Behavior & Training > Rear end awareness and pivoting. We are stuck!
Lucy
Life is supposed- to be fun! |
| Barked: Thu Apr 28, '11 11:36pm PST | | | | | A back foot target is when the dog backs up and places her back foot on a target. This is useful to teach back end awareness. Jessie, my buddy, targets our mom's paw (err..hand) with her back foot just like she does a front shake a paw.
It is taught by placing a large target (could even use a mat to start) right behind you and c/t any time the back foot hits the mat. It helps if the target and the floor have different textures.
If you are a small dog, try luring under a chair near the wall so that backing out becomes the only option. Add distance with success.
After a while, you will start to 'feel' your way backward with your back foot. This can lead to walking up stairs beckwards etc.
The more different ways you learn this, the better you will understand that you have a back end as well as a front end and can move them independently.
Have fun! | | | | |
