Lexi would your mom be able to answer a question my mom has? Little Garnet has been limping on one of her back legs. The vet looked at it and felt it and everything and said that the tibia bone is twisted and that her tendons and ligaments arent strong enough to keep her patella in the right place. He put her on an anti inflammatory called Rymadal or something like that. He also recommended xrays for her. Mom's question is could it be a birth defect to her leg or could it be from her former owner making her go in and out of the back door into the back yard which from the house to the top step is about a five inch drop. Mom would rather let Garnet and Blaze in and out through the sliding glass door instead of making them take that big jump. If it helps any Garnet weighs 10.8 pounds since she got spayed and she is 8 months old.

Small breeds can be prone to patella problems. Do you know if any of her siblings/parents have the same problem?

I think x-rays would be a good idea for her. After I ruptured my CCL mom also took me to a holistic vet and I was put on some supplements that helped my recovery after my surgery. Do you have a holistic vet in your area and have you thought of getting a second opinion on her patella?

None of her siblings have the problem. Her only living brother is bigger than she is but he doesnt have any problems. Her vet took x-rays and it showed that the leading edge of her tibia had been broken at one point when she was very young and it healed twisted which allows her knee cap to pop out of place now and then. He is going to just monitor her leg for now and if it gets worse then mom and dad will consider surgery.

I am so sorry I've been gone and just saw your post Maggie,,It sounds like a ACL Injury which is a cruciate rupture, very painful and almost always requires surgery which is a little over $3,000.00. If not fixed arthritis will set in and cause terrible pain as it will be bone on bone and it can't be fixed. It's why athletes have to have their knees done as soon as the swelling is gone. We'll keep her in our prayershug

Lexi its alright. Garnet's vet did x-rays of her leg and found that at some time when she was very young she had broken the leading edge of her tibia and when it was broken was during the time frame that her growth plates were still sealing so it healed twisted and it allows for her knee cap to pop out of place now and then. Her vet is going to monitor it for now and if she starts really limping and not weight bearing on it or starts doing a lot of whining and yelping then he will consider surgery and meds but until then she is free to live a happy young life. She is 10 months old now and almost 11 pounds.

How is your mommy doing, Maggie? How is Garnet? Is she getting around okay? How often does your mommy take her to the vet? Hugs for your mommy!

Love you,
