 | | | | Dear Ones ~
So sorry to hear PapaC fell & hope it's only bruised...know it must be painful. Annie Mom, sorry you're still having problems with that tooth. Sarge, sweetie, hoping you'll be all better and not need any surgery for your eye. Flicka Mom,
hoping you pain has lessened. Hope dear Burt is doing ok and that Scooter Mom is well by now.
We are s l o w l y starting to come around, we think (though this flu is tricky and just when you think you're better, it comes roaring back...so taking it very easy still). Doc did give us antibiotics last week just in case of bacterial infection spinning off from the flu. Doc said he still heard lots of bronchitis & was concerned about pneumonia (as I'm susceptible to it) so I got a chest xray...all looked clear). The cough is better, head clear of congestion for the most part now, but still both of us very weak & doesn't take much to get knocked down flat again. So hoping you all can avoid it...it's hardest on us elders!
Remember we had our roof redone on Dec. 15th? Well, we've had two very strong wind storms since then (50-60 mph gusts) and in both blows shingles started flying off the roof and landed in the yard. Called the roofing man and he was
supposed to come fix it this week. On Tuesday, he was at the store buying the replacement shingles for our house, then coming here to repair. While he was at the store, he got a call from home that his house (that they'd just moved into last weekend) was on fire, so he dropped what he was doing and raced back home. Was a log home in the woods (no water available on site & had to be trucked in). The house was a total loss and burned everything they owned. The family escaped with just the clothes on their backs (thank God no one was hurt...I haven't had the courage to ask if their dog got out). He and his wife have two little ones, a 5 year old and 18 month old. They had no insurance for contents of the house yet. This happened in Romney, WV on Tuesday (we saw the story in the local paper up there online). A friend of his (also a contractor) lives in our neighborhood and brought the shingles by yesterday and is to come himself today to repair our roof. Contributions are being asked for (they need everything) so we've scoured the house and have quite a bit of things
to send up to them via our neighbor who said he'd pick the things up today when he does our roof. Sent blankets, pillows, winter jackets, bathroom towels, shower curtain & rug, box of hangers and quite a few bags of clothes (mostly women's as his wife wears same size as Mom). A large stuffed bear for the 5 year old and a little musical baby toy for the 18 mo old. That's going to be a load for Dennis to take, so will try to gather more household items during the weeks for his next trip up. Its such a shame that this happened to such a sweet young family. All his business records were lost as well as his
computer & all office equipment. I have a spare (empty) 4 drawer file cabinet from our business just sitting in the shed...will ask if they want that, too. Just terrible, but so thankful no one was hurt. Again, such good people having such a disaster...sigh!
Mom ordered Sully an elk antler on Ebay and it came this week. Boy, has that cheered him up and given him something to do. He has smiled and wagged his tail for the first time since we lost our girl and is really enjoying the antler. SO hoping this may be a turning point him.
Our car overheated while Daddy was down picking up our prescriptions and he just barely made it home. Left it to cool off overnight and filled with antifreeze the next morning. So far ok...keeping everything crossed. We were supposed to have it inspected by Dec 31, but waited too long (ahem!) and then got too sick to do anything. Will have to have that done soon
and spend at least $300 to repair side mirror (hoping & praying that's all).
My girlfriend, Margie, in Atlanta (the one whose hubby was so sick last spring) had told me she thought I'd like Downton Abby, so I watched Season 3, Episode 1 the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Have it set to tape following episodes. A smart show with lots of plot lines and great dialog and glorious scenery. Think you'd enjoy it, Annie Mom Will have to watch for Seasons 1 and 2 to be repeated. It's on PBS here on Sunday evenings. I so enjoyed The Tudors and am glad to have another period piece to watch now.
Rained lightly yesterday and continues today...we need it!
Thinking of you all always and sending love and healing wishes to all!
