Question about canine good citizen test.

Couple of months ago I was getting Homie ready for CGC test, we signed up for the class so we can be better prepared before taking the test. Homie did fine, but I get easily confused in new situations (due to PTSD). I felt that it was very likely I would end up having a pannic attack during the test, so I asked if someone else could take Homie thru the test. I was told that it's a test for the dog and handleder relationship, so I should be the one taking the test w/Homie. We ended up not taking the test.
I still want Homie to take the test, but I don't want to take it. Can they actually deny the test if Homie is w/different handler (we were planning to go back to the same place)?

No, they can't. It's not part of the CGC rules, and anyway, they don't even require copies of the registration to verify who legally owns the dog.

I wouldn't think so. That just does not make sense to me it's Canine Good Citizen, not Canine and handler good citizen. I'd just find another place to get the test taken, and find a friend that's good with dogs to be the handler. Teach him/her how to handle your dog, how to do through the test, what they will have to do, ect.

I always thought it had to be an owner/dog type thing, but my friend had her dogsitter's kids take the CGC with her dogs. (The kids are jr. handlers with their own dogs for agility). They had no issue with that and both dogs passed the test.

I guess I would say most take the test just to make sure that their dog is good in a public situation.

My CGC evaluator told me the same thing. I ended up sitting the test. We passed. I have read somewhere that it is a dog/handler test, but I've misplaced where.

I'm pretty sure the test is for the dog, not the dog and the handler. My service dog was given the test with his trainer from the program I got him from. He passed. I was not required to take the test with him. I did take his public access test with him, but I think that is supposed to be a test of both the dog and the handler's ability to handle the dog in public.

Some of the belief it is a dog/owner test is that the CGC is used as part of the testing for Therapy dog certification by most therapy dog groups. Obviously, since therapy work involves the dog and handler acting as a team, the testing needs to be done with the person who will be visiting with the dog, not someone else.
