Dog license?

The Service and Therapy Dog forum is for all service and therapy dogs regardless of whether or not their status is legally defined by federal or state law, how they are trained, or whether or not they are "certified." I was told a SD is entitled to a free license from your town or county etc. My town doesn't know of this. Can anyone point me to documentation to share with them?

Look up the law in your state. I'm in Ohio, and here a SD gets a free lifetime license, provided you have something to document the dog is in fact an SD. If you owner train, I'm not sure what kind of documentation you would use. I had the documentation from my dog's program.

When My doctors told me that I needed a Service dog they all wrote notes stating I needed a SD.
When I found Sadie and began training her she was 7months old. I took her first to see the vet and then got her spayed through a state program. When finally I got to my town office they gave me a pile of papers for my doctors to fill out and then when I brought them back they gave me her license tag every year now I get one in the mail. What you need to do is have your doc. write a note saying that you use the dog to aid you in your independents of your life. That your disabilities are so that you need the dog for assit. in your daily life. stuff like that. My town gave me those papers to have my doc. verify that I do indeed use the dog as an assit. animal. I do receive every year a tag free for Sadie.
