	I wanted to share with everyone this recent issue I have discovered with my dog, ava. She is a Jack Russell and she will be 3 years old in February and I noticed that something wasnt right with her left eye. I showed my wife but she thought it was normal. I went to the vet for something else, she was very itchy(seperate post), and I had them check her eye, and they did notice that something was wrong and that I should see a specialist. I saw a specialist and it came down to her having a cataract in her left eye. Long story short, I want to post to everywhere that I was able to check this myself by just using a camera. Take a picture of your dog using a flash, and look at the photo, both eyes should be glowing. In my puppies case, her right eye was the only one glowing because the cataract is blocking the left eye. I wanted to share this because cataracts can be fixed sometimes if it isnt too late. Take a picture of your dog tonight using a flash. I hope this helps people....early detection is good. I will be getting it removed from ava's eye soon, and I hope all is well. Edited by author Wed Jan 9, '13 9:59am PST

	The camera trick works for some, but sadly, there are many different types of cataracts in dogs and not all of them will be visible by blocking the flash, it depends on the type of cataract as well as its position in the eye. Good luck with the surgery. I recently had a Frenchie with a hereditary juvenile cataract and, fortunately for him, it broke up on its own when it was mature, resulting in the return of full vision in that eye. This doesn't happen often, but it like a miracle when it does! His cataract was diagnosed at 6 months and was completely gone at just around a year of age. All that is left are tiny pieces which the ophthalmologist can see on exam with his special equipment but which are not visible to the naked eye OR to the dog seeing out of that eye.

	You are absolutely right...well publicized....this is a proven way in many ways to see if cataract conditions in humans and pets are starting. I remember taking a pic of my elderly mother and her German Shepherd after having the pictures developed in boots many years ago I noticed both had greyish/red glint in one eye each which caused me concerned after reading an article in the daily mail. My mother and bonnie (her beloved pet) both had cataracts without even knowing due to age. My mother was to old for surgery and hated the doctors , let alone going under medical eye procedure. I done some research and found some eye drops for cataracts by ethosheaven. My Mother noticed improvement for the last 6 months of her life she claimed....we still have bonnie and his vision and life quality has improved immensely....bright eyes drops really have made ethosheaven
