I LOVE the variety of the breed! Daiz is going to be 7 yrs/old in May and now weighs about 47 lbs. She used to weigh around 60 but was really overweight for her size---she has a smaller frame. She actually injured her knee joint pretty badly last winter and our local vet wanted to operate. Fortunately we got another opinion (from our vet who is a Bully specialist), he said she didn't need the operation (it was an injury that just took time to heal), but he STRONGLY cautioned us to have her lose weight. It was the hardest thing we ever did---a Bulldog on a diet is NOT a happy Bulldog---but she is like a new dog now (she lost almost 15 lbs.)! She doesn't have as hard a time in the summer and has tons more energy (for a bulldog that is--she's still a "world class napper"!) The advice to be able to feel the ribs is good!
