Dominance and Agression?

This is a place to gain some understanding of dog behavior and to assist people in training their dogs and dealing with common behavior problems, regardless of the method(s) used. This can cover the spectrum from non-aversive to traditional methods of dog training. There are many ways to train a dog. Please avoid aggressive responses, and counter ideas and opinions with which you don't agree with friendly and helpful advice. Please refrain from submitting posts that promote off-topic discussions. Keep in mind that you may be receiving advice from other dog owners and lovers... not professionals. If you have a major problem, always seek the advice of a trainer or behaviorist!

Hey Max! It's nice to see ya! wave I agree with them Max. Just make sure he doesn't win ALL the games or else he will think of play time as torture time BOL! Also to get rid of that "I'm the Master and Your the Dog" opposite when he thinks he's the leader is to tell him to stay and you walk in front of him. Then when you've stopped for a while continue walking down the hall and keep doing that. It helped get Snow rid of doing that.

I really wouldn't think in terms of "mom" being the "alpha dog." Mom is a human to a dog, a benevolent leader, a partner, a master, etc. Mom doesn't need to do any of those things taught to be "alpha" if you are referring to alpha rolls. Now house manners, loose leash walking, and heeling, basic obedience, are all fine things. You needn't spoil your dog or let your dog get away with things.

Max, I LOVE your new name.

I agree with Watson, the alpha stuff is stupid. Dogs don't become dominant because you let them go through the door first or walk in front of you.

However, it is a good way for a popular TV land trainer to make money and popular shows.

Yepyep! (: You don't have to be domineering or physical in order to get yourself a dog who's willing - and happy - to do what you ask! Positive doesn't mean permissive. ;D

Dear Max

Please allow me to apologize for what I said, a few days ago. My behavior was extremely inappropriate, immature, and lacked the respect you deserved. It was a disruption and distracted others from having fun on Dogster.

It was embarrassing, but I learned that nobody appreciated my poor behavior. In the future, I have every intention of curbing my thoughtless actions and learn to adjust my behavior befitting the environment and situation.

I'm not going to forgive you for this horrible behavior Scooter.
Sorry doesn't cut it. So too bad... And BTW I'm not going to be your friend anymore. You really hurt me, and my Mom badly and she even cryed. It was'nt our intention for this to be a hurtful thread. Mom was just looking for anyone to help her becuase she really isn't that experiance but we are not stupid. and I feel like I'm just not going to be able to be your friend after what you did to us. And I WILL delete my Dogster account ASAP today because we don't want anymore trouble with other dogs.

So goodbye to all my Dogster pals because I won't ever be seeing you guys again.
