Just a general question...I am so upset with the fact that some people and some advertizers promote bathing dogs outside

( UNLESS YOU LIVE IN A VERY HOT CLIMATE AND YOUR DOG LOVES ICY COLD BLASTS OF WATER OUTSIDE......).
After seeing several ads for hose attachments to help bathe dogs with an even more intense blast of water from an outdoor hose..I HAD to voice my opinion...
No wonder dogs do not like baths! Hooked up to the outdoor hose!!!! How would YOU like a nice blast of icy water?
Dogs deserve a nice warm bath..just as you do. Massaging in the shampoo feels great in the nice, warm water. Older dogs, especially love the theraputic feel of a warm bath. I do not like to get out of the tub!
Why try to sell a product that only enhances a dogs dislike for a COLD, HOSE outdoor bath????

If it is the middle of August in a region where there's high humidity then that would be a reason for a cold outdoor bath.

I agree, in general. But in S/E Georgia, it gets powerful hot in the summertime, and the humidity makes it worse. In the summer, I almost always bath my dogs outside. Mostly my GSD, because I have a hard time bathing her in my tub, which doesn't have a shower attachment, so I have to rinse her off cup by cup. (The actual shower stall is in another bathroom with no bathtub, so I can't use that.. )
Other times of year, I use the tub.

(Actually, I don't think I've ever bathed my Papillon mix outside...)

When it gets around 105 degrees here, just about everyone enjoys the water from a cold hose! Heck, I think some people start bathing their kids outside with the hose.

I stopped bathing my GSD in the tub because of all the fur. It got to be too much and then when he'd shake the water out all over the bathroom, that was the final straw. I took an old water bed hose attachment, hooked it up to the sink, ran the hose through the window and I washed my dog in warm water outside. It was great.
Today, and different dog, I will only bathe him during a heat wave (luckily he doesn't need but one or two baths a year) using the cold water out of the hose. There is no way I'm cleaning up the bathroom from all that fur and all that water. It's quick and simple outside and I'm sure the cold water feels great when it's so darn hot out.

Jessie doesnt fit in our bath tub so we take her down to the river and give her a bath. She loves it even though sometimes the water is cold. Heck somedays she grabs the hose outta my hands and splashes herself with it and its freezing cold. And when I do give her a bath with the house I make sure i get water outta of the milkhouse thats not freezing cold but luke warm .

I bathe my dogs outside, they love it. I just use the appropriate temp of
water. I hear ya about the icey cold blast I've seen peoplle do it and it is awful.
I commend you for getting the question out there, the more that read it, the less people will do it. (hopefully)

yes, I agree with the gsd owner who has the fur to deal with also.
A great ideal was to have a plummer come out and put hot and cold tap outside.
It has really been so helpful.
But, my smooth short hair gets a bath inside.
He gets too cold in even the hottest weather.
And he hates baths also:)
My gsd loves any water cold or warm doesn't matter to her. The hardest part is to keep her from biting my hand as she bites the water as it is a game for her. But, I hear you, some dogs detests baths in general without the cold blast from a hose.

i dont clean my dog out side.. to me it is a bit backward coz as soon as she is wet she gets dirty again being out side.. for the hot weather i fill them up a wee pool out side and they go in and out as much as they want, have to bath them again at night due to being so muddy but hey dogs will be dogs as long as there happy i dont think it matters, after a while they get used to what there taught.. my collie hates being washed all together lol.

I have a 170lb English Mastiff who is still growing. If you can fit him into YOUR tub, be my guest, but he LOVES his outside baths with the hose. He rarely gets baths, except when we come back from the beach because we want to get all the salt off his skin. He actually just lays there and soaks it all up... I'm sure the cool water feels good after a 90 + degree day playing on the beach.
Also, keep in mind, when it's warm out somewhere, the hose water is NOT icy cold. The heat warms the pipes so the water is actually lukewarm.
So yeah... Your opinion that products like that enhance a dislike for an outdoor hose bath, but my husband and I have actually contemplated purchasing such a product to make bath time quicker and more efficient for Bam-Bam. Not to mention, in the early spring he chose to run into that COLD water at the beach and swim over and over again. It must have been enjoyable.
Oh, and our puppy still gets bathed in the tub and she gets lukewarm as well.

I don't bathe dogs inside or out. Feed a decent chow and as little else as possible, seldom if ever bathe the dog, and brush it daily with a soft bristled brush.

Most dogs, even Labs, don't like being squirted with a hose. I do it when I have no other way to wet down a dog to continue activities when it is hot outside.
