I have a 3yr old mini pin, he tends to whine and bark when we put him in his crate at night for atleast 20 min any ideas

He has been crate trained his whole life and never had such a problem being in the crate at night, he barks and barks for atleast 20 min, we tell him to be quiet several times and nothing helps. He has 2 blankets washed often and chew toys and i have even started giving him a treat and saying bedtime when i put him up for the night, he knows his cage and gets in no problem but once he is in he whines and barks for way to long any ideas on other options to help stop this problem?

Something must've happened for him either not to like his crate or decide that there are other options that he likes better. For instance if you recently let him sleep on the bed with you but he used to be crated it might be that he now likes to sleep on the bed rather than his crate. Of course this is just an example it could be something similar. Here are some tips that might help:

-Allow him to eat his meals in or near his crate so that a good association occurs.

-Put a blanket or sweater that has the family's scent so that he feels more comfortable.

-Don't give him ANY attention. Even saying "hush" is attention you simply have to ignore him.

These are just some basics but the following link contains more detailed information about crate training: k9domain.web.officelive.com
