BOL. Huskies howl, or try to howl. It can sound like someone is slowly killing a dog. Go to the Behavior/training forum and search for information on excessive barking and how to stop it. You can treat the howling like barking.

We enjoy hearing me howl, but I can see how it would be a problem living in a neighborhood.

Plenty of exercise, attention, and lots of petting and affection can help with the problem. A stuffed Kong and toys to keep his mind off oh howling might help. Huskies are special and need a lot of affection to be happy. I won’t even eat until I have been petted within an inch of my life when my person gets home for the day.

Working with a trainer can help too.

Good luck.

Do you have it on a leash or in a fenced yard? Huskies get bored very easily and they are not a good dog to have if you don't have a fenced yard. This is not a breed you can just tie on a leash. Give him toys such as kongs to play with to keep him occupied and make sure he gets lots of exercise.

The reason your dog cries is that it is a pack animal and dosnt see the point of being left behind with all his energy.

So the best thing to do would be to exercise your dog alot as huskys have alot of energy it may be quicker and more effective if you went rollar skating or on a bike with him.

An even better idea would be to atatch him to a harnes and then to your bike and let him pull you, this would fulfill his instictual sledge dog side too.

But dont have him pull to much for too long as he is still young.

When your dog is tired and you leave him alone he will think you are goin out on a hunt and the reason he cant go is because he is tired so he should be ok with it.

Hello!
I have an 11 month old Husky and he used to do exactly that. We had do something about it when he was doing it at half 5 in the morning (I live in a neighbourhood!) Exercise definitely helps. Correct him when he does it, thats what we did repeatedly and he eventually stopped doing it at the early hour. It took quite a while for him to understand. He still howls but not as bad. It took alot of apologies to the neighbours too!!! They didnt complain or call the police but we didnt let it get that far, we went to them before and apologised saying we know hes making alot of noise but we were working on it. An informed neighbour is more understanding.
Hope it improves! :)

Uhh Toby you are a Malamute not a husky. Two very different types of dogs.
To answer your question huskies are very active animals and love to be in pacs. They get lonely and bored easily. If you are tying him out I suggest getting a fenced yard to run in. They need alot of exercise and this is not the breed for everyone.

If your dog is outside houling for up to 1 hr at a time then I dont blame yor neighbors for calling the police. Take your dog out for a walk or a run rather then tie him up for an hour. I'm sure you wont get the cops called on you then.
