Hey Baxter. Okay as long as your dogtor told you it was okay to give Benadryl. My dog Echo just recently got stung by a bee on her paw and our dogtor told me to give her Childrens benadryl (I guess your only sopose to give dogs childrens because it's easy on their stomach)

So what i did was I put the dose on a slice of bread and let her eat the bread. The medicine was bubble gum flavored so she thought she was a treat !! Yummy !

And Be sure to tell her what a good boy he is when he is eating it !! Hope he feels better !

Happy Tail wags your way !!

I believe that for medication you need to squirt it directly in their mouth and if its a pill you can put it into a piece of food (a hot dog) just make a hole where the pill can fit and they usually will eat it without a problem.

Burkett's Cookies 'n' Creme

When I have to give my GSD her incontinence medication, I generally take something she really loves and wrap it around the tablet. I use bacon, lunch meat, etc. And I'm trying to find some chicken hearts to use per the experience/idea of another Dogster member (Fritz). They can work like "pill pockets", but are cheaper. I just have to find a store that sells them.

SUNSHINE

for pills for my tiny dog, I always used a bit of butter, just enough to fit the pill in she'd gobble it and the slickness would slide that pill right down. You couldn't get her to take them either, and if you tried the old put it on the back of her tongue thing, the little devil suddenly became super strong and you get "accidentally" bitten.
I have another little terror, er I mean terrier. And she will fight you just as valiantly when there is some procedeure she doen't cotton too, only she never "accidentally" closes her jaws on your fingers.
My Sunshine is alergic to ant bites too, and she even gets HIVES...Benadryl workd wonders!

Nubbins

If those things don't work like lunch meat or other foods they have treats called "pill pockets" at petsmart, my min pin doesn't have a problem with taking medication but I found sometimes he would realize it and eat around the pill and spit it out and the ''pill pockets'' are a really clever way to hide medication, so I would try lunchmeat first but if no luck your local petstore for the treats!

Jack

I've never had to stick a pill down a dog's throat. I just wrap it in a piece of chicken or low fat cheese and voila! No problems. Seems to work like magic.

Good luck. I hope he's feeling better soon. That's got to hurt!

Our boxers have allergies and have to take benedryl. I hid it in a wad of peanut butter and they chew it right up but make sure they cant see it
