Unfortunately, osteosarcomas (or bone cancer tumors) are the most common type of cancer that Rotties are prone to and they have a higher rate of it than some other breeds.

It's a cancer that is associated with a genetic link, so if your aunt's two dogs were related or came from the same breeder, it's possible that they had an even higher hereditary risk for it.

Sadly, it's a very painful and aggressive cancer that is often misdiagnosed as hip dysplasia or more common types of arthritic conditions.

Symptoms are sudden lameness, favoring one leg or the other, limping and other things that might seem like dysplasia/arthritis.

That's why it's important for ALL breeds to have any symptoms like these fully checked out so a definitive diagnosis can be made and any precious treatment time isn't lost.

Hope that answers your question.
